PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
